Since 2006, North American trade has grown 100% and trucks have become the main transport mode for goods moving over 70% of the southern border trade and 64% of all North American trade. Despite border bottlenecks, it remains the fastest mode to deliver goods in hours but idling times are pressuring freight forwarders’ operational margins, and region competitiveness.

Land borders absorb 60% of international travelers entering the US.

Challenged by three big disruptions since 1994, the transborder mobility of people has demonstrated resilient behavior and strong binational dynamics in border regions, particularly in the southern border where 50% of international travel is through Mexico.

Four main transborder cities’ ports of entry are overloaded because they absorb traffic share that surpasses the built capacity of the ports of entry and the surrounding road infrastructure.
